Mon State is a region in southern Myanmar (Burma). It is one of the country's 14 states and divisions and is named after the Mon people, an ethnic group that has historically inhabited the area. The capital of Mon State is Mawlamyine, which is also the third-largest city in Myanmar. Geographically, Mon State is bordered by Kayin State to the east, the Andaman Sea to the west, Bago Region to the north, and Tanintharyi Region to the south. The state's coastline stretches along the Andaman Sea, providing access to ports and coastal areas.
